Moon Hammer has been selected for Indie 102.3’s Local 303 for August 2026! This puts Moon Hammer and its new single, “Snakey,” in rotation with some of Colorado’s best local artists.

The Local 303 is Colorado Public Radio and Indie 102.3’s monthly spotlight on Colorado musicians. Throughout each month, they feature artists from across the state on the radio.

This is especially meaningful for us because Moon Hammer grew directly out of the community surrounding Moon Magnet!

“Snakey” the Single

The song being featured by Indie 102.3 is “Snakey,” Moon Hammer’s first new single in five years! It’s an intentional mixture of styles by design.

At its core, “Snakey” takes a salsa influenced groove and combines an electronic and hip hop inspired production.

With neo soul vocals, accordion, upright piano, jazz guitar, bass, percussion, ukulele and more the track isn’t lacking variety!

The song features vocalists Ishka Bee Phoenix and Megan Crooks, with Reed Fox, Neil Lyons, Jeremy Averitt, and Mark Emmons contributing to the production and instrumentation.

It was produced, mixed, and mastered right here at Moon Magnet Mixing & Mastering in Denver.

A Band Born at Moon Magnet

Moon Hammer formed in Denver in 2018 as a rotating collective of musicians connected to Moon Magnet Studios.

The current lineup includes:

Reed Fox: production, accordion, mixing, mastering

Ishka Bee Phoenix: lead vocals, harmonies, piano

Megan Crooks: vocal harmonies

Neil Lyons: guitar, production, piano

Jeremy Averitt: bass, ukulele

Mark Emmons: percussion, piano

The project has always been collaborative. Musicians come into the studio, contribute an instrument or idea, and help shape the songs into something none of us could have made alone. Or you could say they are “hammering” out songs!

That approach is also a big part of what we encourage at Moon Magnet Music School. Learning an instrument is just aspect of being a musician. Playing with other people and experimenting is just as important.

Make Some Music of Your Own

If hearing local musicians create something from scratch makes you want to work on your own music, that is exactly what we are here for.

Moon Magnet Music School offers private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, drums, bass, ukulele, songwriting, music production, DJing, and more throughout the Denver area.

Whether you want to learn your first instrument, write original songs, produce electronic music, join a band, or finish a track you have been working on, our teachers can help you figure out the next step.
