UMS & Blucifer's First Rodeo: A Weekend of Denver Music, DJ Sets, and a Piano Trophy

What a weekend. UMS (Underground Music Showcase) and Blucifer's First Rodeo, an iconic Denver house show and a festival, landed on the same weekend this year. Of course Moon Magnet showed up and went all out at both!
The Rocky Mountain Accordion Competition also fell on the same weekend, so proud shoutout to our music school students who competed in the piano division. One of them walked away with a first place trophy!
At UMS, Snowflyer (Derrick Bozich), Levi Double U, and I DJ'd between sets on the main stage, and I played a set of original songs we'd written together as friends. The next day at Blucifer's First Rodeo, Snarklet & The Quasars played a house show at Megan Crook's place, followed by Megan's band Mouth Cathedral with Ryan Schlichtman on guitar.
Jamie and I brought Bun Bun to Wax Trax on Saturday with two brand new songs, and my cousin Riley Merino played five sets across the weekend at Tomato Soup and more. He plays guitar, sings, and holds down bass, sometimes in the same set. Thanks to everyone who came out and made UMS and Blucifer's First Rodeo happen this year. Weekends like this were a great reminder of why we started Moon Magnet. Real musicians and community in Denver, what more could you ask for?
